Appellate Lawyer, Colorado State Public Defender’s Appellate Division 1992-1995
Wrote briefs to the Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court. Did oral arguments in the Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court. Wrote training materials for the Colorado State Public Defender.

Tried dozens of felony trials, from first-degree murder to felony menacing, and including death penalty litigation. As senior attorney, supervised young felony lawyers, litigated many dozens of motions, and tried many cases. The litigation included challenges to arrests and searches, constitutional attacks on numerous drug statutes, and death penalty motions. Developed an expertise in defense of habitual criminal charges. Conducted numerous training sessions for public defenders, including training on prosecutorial misconduct, discovery issues, juvenile law issues, and habitual offender litigation.
