Staff Lawyer, National Labor Relations Board, Washington, D.C., for Board Member John Raudabaugh 1991-1992

Read briefs of litigating parties, advised Board Member of legal issues, wrote appellate opinions.

Appellate Lawyer, Colorado State Public Defender’s Appellate Division 1992-1995

Wrote briefs to the Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court. Did oral arguments in the Colorado Court of Appeals and Colorado Supreme Court. Wrote training materials for the Colorado State Public Defender.

Trial Lawyer, Senior Attorney, Colorado State Public Defender’s Office, Denver and Arapahoe County Trial Offices 1995-2000

Tried dozens of felony trials, from first-degree murder to felony menacing, and including death penalty litigation. As senior attorney, supervised young felony lawyers, litigated many dozens of motions, and tried many cases. The litigation included challenges to arrests and searches, constitutional attacks on numerous drug statutes, and death penalty motions. Developed an expertise in defense of habitual criminal charges. Conducted numerous training sessions for public defenders, including training on prosecutorial misconduct, discovery issues, juvenile law issues, and habitual offender litigation.

Criminal appeals, felony trials, post-conviction litigation, and legal advice and analysis for lawyers.
